straight forelegs and their light and quick gait. Their coat

Disposition: The Ainu is brave, determined and aggressive
while in the company of other animals but is found to be loyal
and obedient to his human family. These were used as guards,
hunters and to pull sleds at one time but also make good pets
at home. Please note instructions on training. They have a
strong sense of purpose and he is therefore required to be
well directed so that he feels he is achieving a purpose which
will prevent him from getting involved in undesirable activities.
These dogs need to be raised along with the family’s

Origin: This breed originated in Japan and is believed to
have got his name from the Ainu tribe. This breed is mainly
localized in Japan and it is believed that the Ainu tribe
used these dogs as guards and as draft animals due to their
ability to live in hostile environments and with little care.
Probable Relatives: Shar Pei, Chow Chow
Environment: They are suited to homes with a large yard and
not to small apartment life because of their high energy levels.
Grooming: Their coat needs regular brushing due to them having
a rough coat.
Exercise: Although you don’t need to exercise them
too hard, you need to ensure they follow a regular exercise
routine.
Training: These dogs not only require good, consistent training
but also require to be given a goal to work towards so as
to help prevent them from engaging in destructive activities.
They need to be trained to socialize with others so that they
recognize the owner’s friends. This is quite important
as these breeds normally decide for themselves who are friends
and foes and you wouldn’t want their choice to be different
from yours.
