Know your Dog better...

Dog Games - dog dress up games, dog agility games and more

Dogs are playful animals and you may find that they resort to rough play with other dogs when they have established a friendship. Do not mistake this for a fight and try to pull her away. You need to watch out for signs of anger in which case you need to call your trained dog to yourself. You will notice that some breeds are more playful than others.

Dogs love running around which helps them get the necessary exercise. If you want to build a good relationship with your dog, you can join her in her games by playing 'Fetch' or by chasing her around. There are many dog agility games that you can have with your pet dog. Dogs love to be free and running around things, they love to grab a ball tossed in the air or a flying frisbee gliding in the air. There are many dog games competitions, where dogs show thier caliber in catching, snatching, obedience, diving etc. Dog's love gnawing things which you may have realised on seeing the state of your shoes or the sofa after they have had a go at it. Gnawing has to be encouraged as it provides good mouth exercise and also helps in keeping the teeth and gums clean and free from plaque and tartar. But you will have to substitute your shoes with a good dog toy. there are a lot of dog toys in the form of bones, rubber balls, doggie toys ducks for aquatic games such as fetching the toy duck from the pool etc.

A wide array of toys are available although it may take some time before you know which toy is your dog’s favorite. Once you have it, it will be a timeless activity for your dog.

A few examples of the most common choices of toys are given below:

  • Soft toys: This is made of fabric and may not necessarily always be used as a toy but more as a toy to cuddle with. Since these are made of fabric, they will also not last too long.
  • Rubber toys: These toys are more durable and therefore are best for assertive chewers.
  • Rope toys: These serve as a good chew and recently these come in flavors. Over time you will know your dog's choice.
  • Vinyl toys: These are soft and therefore easily compressed by biting. Such toys normally squeak, becoming pleasant entertainment for your dog although you may choose not to buy these if you believe it will be too disturbing.
  • Rawhide toys: These are made from treated beef hide and you may find that your dog swallows bits of these toys. Small bits easily pass through the digestive system and so is not a cause of concern. You need to ensure that your dog is supervised from time to time so that it does not swallow huge chunks of rawhide. Rawhide bones should be bought from good dealers to ensure that the product is made from good raw hide and that it is treated with good products.

You will no doubt have some happy and interesting moments watching your dog play with her toys.... provided you have made the right choice. Be ready with your video camera so that you can get some beautiful clips of your pet dog giving you some nice shots for your personal video collection.
